L.A.M.C. Technical Group

Fiber Optic Backbone Project

The Louisville Academic Medical Center Technical Group proposes to install a hybrid fiber optic network connecting local hospitals and the University of Louisville. The hospitals are Alliant Health Systems, Jewish Hospital, and University Medical Center. The fiber optic network will consist of 36 strands of multi-mode fiber and 48 strands of single mode fiber to each entity. The desirable path for the connecting of these sites will be via the Jefferson County Steam and Chill Water Plant.

The LAMC Technical Group proposes to install the fiber optic cable(s) in a four-inch EMT conduit. The four-inch conduit will contain (4) one-inch inner-ducts. The fiber optic network to be installed will utilize (1) to (2) inner-ducts in a given segment. The surplus inner-ducts will allow for future expansion without the added cost of additional conduit installation. The installed conduit will be attached to the existing H-frame support structure that is present throughout most of the tunnel system. In areas where H-frame is not present or is not possible to attach to, the conduit will be anchored directly to the concrete wall or ceiling. Anchoring will consist of either angle bracing or expansion anchors with threaded rod and clamps. Any wall penetrations that require fire stopping will be fire stopped.

Fishel Technologies Company will perform all work. All work will be completed in a neat and workmanship like manner. All Steam and Chill Water plant policies and procedures will be adhered to without exception.
